Lighting the Way: Custom Signage for III Forks Restaurant in Addison, TX

When upscale architecture meets expert signage, the result is unforgettable. That was the case for III Forks Restaurant in Addison, TX, where National Sign Team (NST) helped bring an ambitious design vision to life. With upscale halo lettering, intricate architectural details, and a clear need for precision craftsmanship, this project shows us what happens when signage becomes an integral part of a brand's identity.

From Vision to Reality: The Story Behind III Forks' New Look

The project for III Forks was not your typical signage installation. The restaurant’s new design featured a stunning fascia with vertical "fins," creating texture, dimension, and rhythm across the exterior walls.

The architectural goal was clear: the signage needed to feel like a piece of jewelry, not just a label.

National Sign Team was brought in early to help translate the design vision into functional, illuminated signage that enhanced — not competed with — the unique façade.

From the beginning, everyone knew this wasn’t a typical installation. Every decision, from fabrication methods to lighting techniques, needed to elevate the overall experience of the building.

Halo Illuminated Letters: Elegant Lighting for an Upscale Brand

The primary signage for III Forks consists of custom halo illuminated letters, carefully fabricated to deliver a refined, upscale glow.

Halo letters are designed to cast a soft light against the surface behind them rather than shining directly outward. The effect is subtle, sophisticated, and ideal for luxury brands. However, halo illumination also demands incredible precision — especially when mounted on an uneven surface like the vertical fin façade at III Forks.

Unique Challenges:

  • Vertical fins created multiple planes, meaning the surface wasn’t flat.
  • Consistent glow required careful spacing between the wall and the backs of the letters.
  • Custom spacers had to vary in size to ensure each letter sat on the same visual plane for perfect readability and lighting distribution.

Instead of a standard install, National Sign Team had to custom-build and individually fit spacers for each letter. Some letters needed longer spacers, others shorter — all calibrated so that, when installed, the sign appeared seamless from the ground.

The result? When the signs are illuminated at night, the light softly washes the fins, creating a warm coppery reflection that makes the entire façade glow.

Precision Fabrication: Turning Drawings into Reality

This project started on paper with detailed architectural sign drawings. Close collaboration between the design team, the architects, and National Sign Team ensured that every detail was anticipated.

Key Project Details:

  • Fabricated halo illuminated letters with a custom-painted metallic finish.
  • Multiple sign locations across the building: including main ID signs and secondary branding.
  • Pre-installation mockups to ensure perfect placement and illumination angles.
  • Field adjustments to fine-tune installation on the unique finned surface.

Before the letters were even installed, NST fabricated full-scale layouts to review spacing and lighting behavior. Inside the shop, the signs were carefully wired and tested to guarantee even illumination across every letter.

It wasn’t just about fabrication — it was about problem-solving at every step.

Installation Excellence: Bringing the Building to Life

Installation took place over several phases to allow for adjustments. Working around the complex architecture, NST's field team installed each piece individually, measuring and leveling each spacer to maintain a perfect visual line.

Because of the uneven fins, even minor miscalculations could have caused shadows or distortions. Thanks to careful planning and skilled craftsmanship, the signs light up flawlessly — every letter appears crisp, and the illumination accentuates the façade’s unique dimensional texture.

When the sun sets, the halo lighting isn’t just functional — it’s transformative. The building looks alive, radiating a luxurious warmth that perfectly reflects the III Forks brand.

The End Result: An Ecstatic Client and a Signature Landmark

III Forks was thrilled with the finished project. The signage didn't just meet expectations — it exceeded them.

The signs feel integrated into the architecture, not added onto it. They bring out the best in the building’s design, enhancing the customer’s first impression before they even walk through the door.

National Sign Team not only fabricated and installed beautiful signage — we helped complete the vision. From the first design sketches to the final lit-up evening shots, this project is a perfect example of turning a dream into reality through skill, creativity, and attention to detail.
