Is Your Signage an Exhibit on Your Lease?

Imagine seeing your business footprint growing. Multiple lease agreements inked, locations selected, the promise of bustling customers, and of course, your brand proudly displayed. But then, a jarring halt! You got ahead of yourself, and now there's an issue with your signage. The aftermath? Delays, extra costs, and a dent in your business reputation. How did this happen?

Lease Signed, Permit Denied

A Cautionary Tale

At National Sign Team, we encountered a situation that underscores the importance of meticulous pre-planning. After conducting a standard code check, we designed a sign within the stipulated code. However, the lease was signed without incorporating the sign drawing as an "Exhibit." As fate would have it, almost every other tenant's signage under the same landlord was in violation of the city's codes. Consequently, our permit application was stalled by the city until all signage on the property complied with the code. The oversight? Not ensuring compliance before signing the lease and including signage drawings in the lease.

Why Never to Ink that Lease without a Permitting Check

Permitting is not just a tick-box exercise; it's the linchpin of ensuring your brand's standards are upheld across all locations. It is absolutely crucial not to sign a lease before you've determined if you can meet all permitting requirements.

Why?

If there's a permitting hiccup that doesn’t resonate with your brand standards, then that location, no matter how lucrative, might just be a mismatch for your business. Permitting ensures you don’t jeopardize your brand's consistency and image.

The Importance of Sequential Preplanning

Our experience has taught us that every stage of the business expansion process, especially in signage, must be meticulously planned and executed in order. Rushing or skipping steps can lead to costly mistakes, like the one mentioned above. Our preplanning stages are methodical, ensuring that every I is dotted and every T is crossed. It’s more than just about being thorough; it’s about upholding your business's vision and brand.
