Maximize ICSC: Your Guide to Trade Show Success

Going to ICSC@FLORIDA? Here’s How to Get More Out of the Show

Trade shows are funny.

You can spend an entire day walking the floor, collecting business cards, looking at booths, checking out new technology, and talking to dozens of people. Then you get home and realize the most valuable part of the trip came down to two or three really good conversations. That is especially true at ICSC.

ICSC@FLORIDA brings together retailers, developers, vendors, service providers, property professionals, and plenty of people who can help move a project or an idea forward. The 2026 event runs August 30 through September 1 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. There will be a lot happening.

Our advice? Do not try to do everything.

Go in with a plan for what you want to learn, who you want to meet, and what you want to bring home with you. We put together a few things we are doing ourselves to prepare for ICSC and thought they might make your trip a little easier too.

ICSC Tips

Before ICSC: Do Some Work Before You Get on the Plane

The easiest way to waste a trade show is to wait until you arrive to decide what you want to do. ICSC is busy. Once the day starts, it is very easy to get pulled in different directions.

You see someone you know. A quick conversation turns into 30 minutes. You decide to walk one section of the show floor and suddenly an hour is gone. Then you look at your phone and realize the meeting you wanted to schedule never actually got scheduled.

A little preparation goes a long way.

1. Schedule the Meetings That Matter Before the Show

This is the biggest one. Think about the people you really want to talk with and get those meetings on your calendar before you arrive.

If signage, branding, multi-location rollouts, permitting, new signage technology, maintenance, or an upcoming expansion is on your list, we would love to sit down with you. You can schedule a time to meet with Mike and Dan from National Sign Team at ICSC.

We built a dedicated appointment page because we wanted to make this part easy. Pick a time, get it on the calendar, and then we know we will actually have a chance to talk. And you can steal that idea.

If your company is going to ICSC to meet prospects, clients, vendors, or partners, ask your web team to create a simple hidden landing page specifically for the show. Give people a quick explanation of why they should meet with you, let them choose a time, and give your team one link to use in emails, LinkedIn messages, text messages, and conversations leading up to the event. The goal is not another marketing campaign. The goal is getting the right conversations onto the calendar.

2. Download the ICSC App Before You Arrive

Do not wait until you are standing inside the convention center trying to figure out where something is. ICSC has its ICSC 365 mobile app for events including ICSC@FLORIDA. The app provides access to the event schedule and floor map, and it also allows attendees to message each other. Registered attendees can use personalized features such as saving attendees, exhibitors, and sessions.

You can download the ICSC event app here. Download it ahead of time. Log in. Look around. Five or ten minutes of preparation before the show could save you a lot of wandering around later.

3. Look at the Schedule Before You Build Your Day

We went looking for the ICSC schedule ourselves and, frankly, it took more digging than we expected. So once we found the event information, we wanted to make sure other people had it too.

The official ICSC@FLORIDA page currently shows registration, networking events, Retailer Runway, Dealmaking & Retailer Central, Meet the Municipalities, and other scheduled activities throughout the event. You can review the current ICSC@FLORIDA event schedule and event details here.

Do not necessarily fill every open spot on your calendar. Leave yourself room to walk, look around, and have the conversations that happen naturally. Just know what you do not want to miss.

When You Get to ICSC, Remember Why You Are There

There will be new products. There will be new technology. There will be companies showing off things you have never seen before. Go look at them. That is part of the fun. Just do not get so caught up in what is new that you forget who is there.

We think the people you should be looking for at a show like ICSC fall into three groups:

Peers

People doing work similar to yours who understand your problems, see the industry from another angle, and may have already solved something you are struggling with.

Vendors and Partners

The people who can help you execute, improve a process, solve a problem, or introduce you to someone else who can.

Prospects

The companies and people you may be able to help, whether that opportunity happens next month or three years from now.

Those conversations are where the value is.

Do Not Just Network With Prospects

This is something we think gets missed at trade shows. People hear the word “networking” and immediately start thinking about sales. Who can I meet? Who might buy from me? Who can I pitch?

That is only part of it. Some of the best conversations you have at ICSC may be with someone who will never become a customer.

A peer might tell you how they solved a problem you have been fighting for six months. A vendor might show you a better way to handle part of your process. Someone you meet over coffee might introduce you to the exact person you have been trying to reach. Relationships compound.

National Sign Team has built a lot of its business around that idea. Our philosophy has always been that relationships, communication, and collaboration are a huge part of getting complicated projects completed successfully. You can learn more about the people behind that philosophy on our About Us page.

Talk to People About Problems, Not Just Products

Here is another thing we would encourage you to try. Instead of asking everyone, “So, what does your company do?” ask better questions: What are you working on right now? What has been difficult lately? What is changing in your business? What are you trying to figure out?

Those conversations get interesting quickly. It is the same approach we want to take when we meet people at ICSC.

If you sit down with Mike and Dan, you do not need to come prepared to talk about buying signs. Bring a problem.

Maybe your locations are not staying consistent. Maybe permitting keeps slowing down openings. Maybe maintenance is becoming expensive. Maybe you have a strange building and cannot figure out the best signage approach. Maybe you saw a new technology and want to know whether it is actually worth using.

Or maybe you have an idea nobody has figured out yet. That is a much more interesting conversation.

Mike brings more than 30 years of sign-industry experience and has worked with national retail, fashion, hospitality, and QSR brands. Dan has experience across sales, project management, design, fabrication, and installation and enjoys the unusual challenges that come with different signage projects. That combination is exactly why we want people to sit down and talk with them.

You can see some of the types of national retail, restaurant, rebranding, installation, and project management work we have been involved with on our Our Work page.

Give Yourself Permission to Skip Something

You do not get a prize for seeing every booth. There is no award for having the heaviest bag of brochures at the end of the day.

If you have a great conversation happening, have the conversation. If someone introduces you to somebody you should know, take the meeting. If a peer starts explaining how they fixed a problem you are dealing with right now, listen.

You can always look up a product later. The opportunity to have the right five people standing in the same building at the same time does not happen nearly as often. That is what makes ICSC valuable.

After ICSC: Do Not Let the Ideas Die in Your Notebook

This might be the most important part of the entire trip.

You come home from a trade show fired up. You have notes. You have pictures. You have business cards. You have names in your phone. You heard about three new technologies you want to research and had two conversations that made you rethink something your company has been doing for years.

Then Wednesday happens.

Your inbox is full. Someone needs something. A project has a problem. Meetings start. A week later, all those ideas are still sitting in your notebook. Do not let that happen.

Follow Up With the People First

Start with the people.

If you told someone you would send something, send it. If you said you would make an introduction, make it. If you met someone you would like to continue talking with, send the message before three weeks pass and both of you are trying to remember what you talked about.

It does not need to be complicated. “Great meeting you at ICSC. I enjoyed our conversation about ______. Let’s keep talking.” That is enough. Relationships are built through follow-through.

Then Turn Your Notes Into a Strategy Map

Do not immediately turn every interesting idea from ICSC into a new project. First, separate strategy from tactics. You may come back saying: “We need digital signage.” That is a tactic. Why? What problem are you trying to solve? Are you trying to improve customer communication? Reduce the cost of changing promotions? Create a stronger in-store experience? Improve visibility? Standardize messaging across locations?

Now you are getting closer to the strategy. Take the ideas you gathered at ICSC and map them back to the larger problems and opportunities inside your organization. What should we improve? Why does it matter? What would success look like? Who needs to be involved?

Once you understand that, you can decide which tactics actually belong in the plan. That keeps an exciting idea you saw on the show floor from turning into an expensive solution looking for a problem. We regularly talk about signage strategy, branding, rollouts, project management, and rebranding on the National Sign Team blog.

The Best Thing You Can Bring Home From ICSC Is a Better Plan

Of course we are looking forward to seeing new products and technology. We are sign people. We like this stuff. But that is not what we are most excited about.

We are excited about the conversations. The people we already know. The people we have not met yet. The weird problems someone is going to bring us. The ideas that start with, “Have you guys ever tried…?”

That is the part of ICSC you cannot get from a website, a webinar, or an email. So prepare before you go. Build some room into your schedule while you are there. Talk to your peers. Talk to your vendors. Talk to your prospects. Ask questions. Listen.

And when you get home, turn those conversations into something useful.
